Design Thinking - Ideate
One of the first assignments in my Storytelling through Emerging Technologies class in the spring of 2020 involved a brainstorming session on how to solve the problem of UNC students (usually seniors) who were stealing bricks from the walkways on campus. Apparently, bricks were thought of as a keepsake of a student's years at UNC, however it was causing hazardous conditions for pedestrians as they walked through campus and tripped over the resulting holes that were left behind. Oddly enough this is an issue for many campuses across the country!

Our team of six engaged in a brainstorming session in which each of us would just start to write an idea on a yellow sticky and place it on a white board. From there we grouped together certain themes and then proceeded to rank those themes based on our perception of how difficult it would be to actually produce a prototype. From there each member of the team had to choose the idea they wanted to pursue. The requirements were to provide a two page write up of the idea that included concept sketches or images to communicate the idea, along with links for competitors or similar technologies. My idea was a Brick Chip Tracker.
