In the fall semester of 2020, my Design Thinking class with Dr. Ryoo involved a semester long project in which we had to identify and address a problem currently in education. My team specifically wanted to investigate how educators teaching math in a public elementary school were managing their stress given they were using a Hy-Flex model (in-class and virtual students) which research shows creates a higher level of cognitive load. In addition, we needed to factor in the COVID-19 social distancing restrictions which impacted the ability of educators to engage/consult with their peers during school hours. This website goes into the Needs Analysis and concludes with a problem statement to illustrate the Define section in Design Thinking.
